Pig Charm Earrings – hand-made with Tibetan silver charms

The Pig Charm Earrings are attractive and inexpensive. They bring this intelligent animal to your jewellery collection.

The pig is an animal that we think we know, but it may hold a few surprises:

  1. Pigs snuggle close to one another and prefer to sleep nose to nose. They dream, much as humans do. In their natural surroundings, pigs spend hours playing, sunbathing, and exploring.
  2. Pigs communicate constantly with one another
  3. Newborn piglets learn to run to their mothers’ voices and to recognize their own names. Mother pigs sing to their young while nursing.
  4. Pigs appear to have a good sense of direction and have found their way home over great distances.
  5. They do not “eat like pigs” or “pig out.” They prefer to eat slowly and savoir their food.
  6. Pigs are clean animals. If given sufficient space, they will be careful not to soil the area where they sleep or eat.
  7. They don’t “sweat like pigs”; they are actually unable to sweat. Pigs like to bathe in water or mud to keep cool, and they actually prefer water to mud.
  8. Pigs are extraordinarily intelligent. They are curious and insightful animals who are widely accepted as being smarter than young children of at least 3 years of age, dogs, and even some primates.
  9. Pigs are very peaceful animals, rarely showing aggression. The exception, as with many animals, is when a mother (sow) with her young offspring is provoked or threatened.
  10. Wild pigs play an important role in managing ecosystems and maintaining biodiversity. By rooting, and thus disturbing the soil, they create areas for new plant colonisation. They also spread fruit plants by dispersing their seeds.
  11. Pigs have a tremendous sense of smell. The large round disk of cartilage at the tip of the snout is connected to muscle that gives it extra flexibility and strength for rooting in the ground.
  12. Winston Churchill famously said that “Dogs look up to man. Cats look down to man. Pigs look us straight in the eye and see an equal.”
  13. The pig is the last of the 12 animals in the Chinese zodiac. In Chinese culture, the pig represents fortune, honesty, happiness and virility.
  14. Pigs have 15,000 taste buds! Humans have 9,000.
  15. An adult pig can run up to 11 miles per hour.
  16. Pigs drink up to 14 gallons of water every day.
  17. There are about 2 billion pigs on earth!
  18. Pigs live on every continent except for Antarctica.
  19. Pigs have 4 toes on each foot but they only walk on 2.
  20. China has the most domesticated pigs in the world! The United States is 2nd.
  21. People with allergies sometimes have pigs as pets because they have hair not fur and they do not shed.
  22. Pigs are easily trained to walk on a leash, use a litter box and do tricks.
  23. In Denmark there twice as many pigs as people!
