Description
The Hand of Fatima Charm Earrings is also known as the Hamsa. The symbol is used all over the Middle East and North Africa. It is significant for Jewish, Christian and Islamic followers and also as a pagan fertility symbol. However, the symbol itself predates all these religions and has been found in cave paintings.
The Hamsa is derived from the Arabic word Khamsah that means “five”. The Hand of Fatima is named after the daughter of the prophet Muhammad. The five fingers also represent the five pillars of Islam.
In the Jewish Tradition it is the Hamesh, which means 5 in Hebrew. It is also known as the Hand of Miriam. Miriam was the sister of Moses.
In Christian, and especially in Catholic tradition, it is the Hand of Mary.
Pagans also know it as the Hand of the Goddess.
It is mainly a symbol used for protection and used as defence to ward off the curse of the Evil eye.
The Hand of Fatima also represents femininity.
