Star of David Charm earrings – hand-made with Tibetan silver charms

The Star of David Charm Earrings are also known as Hexagram Earrings. They feature the six pointed star that is not only significant to the Jewish faith, but to people with other beliefs.

Star of David is composed of two triangles that form a six-pointed star. It appears on synagogues, Jewish tombstones, and the flag of the State of Israel.  In the Middle Ages the Star of David was used among Jews but did not assume any special religious significance. It is also found on some medieval cathedrals. The Jewish community in Prague was the first to use the Star of David as its official symbol. By the 17th century, the six-pointed star became a general sign of Judaism.

The yellow badge that Jews were forced to wear in Nazi-occupied Europe invested the Star of David with a symbolism indicating martyrdom and heroism.

Spiritual Meanings

The six pointed star is also the symbol of the heart chakra. This is usually surrounded by a lotus flower with 12 petals.

The hexagram, like the pentagram is linked to the 7 “old” planets outlined in astrology.

The six-pointed star is commonly used as a talisman. In the book The History and Practice of Magic, Vol. 2, the six-pointed star is called the talisman of Saturn and it is also referred to as the Seal of Solomon. Details are given in this book on how to make these symbols and the materials to use.

Traditionally, the hexagram is a combination of the four elements. Fire is symbolized as an upwards pointing triangle, while Air is also an upwards pointing triangle, but with a horizontal line through its centre. Water is symbolized as a downwards pointing triangle, while Earth  is also a downwards pointing triangle, but with a horizontal line through its centre. When you combine the symbols of Fire and Water, a hexagram (six-pointed star) is created.
